  1. Hey all,

I just joined this forum and just got a DVD burner... coincidence huh?

Anyway, I've been using DVD X Copy and I've had some minor issues. I've been searching around and people are saying not to use it. My question is this... what are you using and where can I get it?

I have a DVD player in my truck and let's just say that it's not kind to the surface of the disc so I would like to burn a copy of my movies and play them in my truck without ruining the originals.

Also, I'm guessing that after several uses I'll have to destroy the DVD since it won't work anyway. Is there a way to store an image of my original so when I need a copy I can just burn one?

    Thanks

  2. DVDShrink. Found over there (<-------) in the Tools section.

  3. Just look to the left and click "Tools", my suggestion would be DVD Shrink. DVDX copy is kind of over-rated.
If it works, don't fix it.

    I've used

    1 dvddecrypter
    2 Dvd2One
    3 copytodvd

For over 150+ backups and never had an issue..No Coasters, jitters, blocks....etc...

    Toadie,

I was in the same situation you are now (having no clear idea how to do things) a few months back. My advice is to sit down, read the guides to using DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter, have a few tries on a DVD±RW, make sure you understand the basics, and then burn away. You should be able to find a solution that works fairly well.

One other thing, check the DVD Players list for the model you have in your truck. Make sure it supports at least one format before you start your burning. If it supports DVD+R, I'd use that. They seem to respond better to being in cars and other shaky environments.

Even easier than that when someone writes a tool name in their post as Headbanger has you can click on it and it will take you directly to the software.

DVD Shrink , also DVD Decrypter

Those two seem the most popular ( and they are free )
And you can download them from the links on this site.

  7. Hey thanks for the info guys... I've been burning successfully with Xcopy but I'm going to try the other tools. Has anone ever encountered this?

I burn a disc, it works in my computer, and my truck, but not on my DVD player in the house? In fact, it turns it off...

Turns the player off? Now that's a new one.

I don't know all the basics about DVDXCopy, so I am making an assumption here, but DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink have features to remove the copy protection and Region Coding from a DVD. Those two annoyances alone are the cause of the majority of playback problems.
