Computer trade show Comdex, once the biggest event on the tech calendar, has been canceled this year, a victim of the growing interest in shows emphasizing consumer electronics and specialist IT gear.
"We feel that while we could run Comdex profitably this year, it really wouldn't serve the interests of the broader IT industry," he said. The international versions of the show are expected to continue as planned............

I remember when you couldn't get a room in Vegas when Comdex was 'Happening', but that was very pre-Y2K.

I would love to go to Comdex. I've been to NAB more times than I can remember, but it's not like I could ever afford any of that stuff! Now the consumer stuff.....

2005 International CES Alumni Registration is Now Open!
Covering every major consumer electronics market, the International CES is the world’s first look at the hottest technologies under the sun. Featuring 130,000 potential partners, competitors and market makers, and new products from 2,400 exhibitors, the 2005 International CES lands in Las Vegas January 6 - 9, 2005. Make the connections that will make your year — and watch your business grow.
Since you've registered for CES before, we've made it even easier for you to register for the 2005 International CES. Use your unique alumni number and password provided below, and we'll expedite your registration process by pre-populating your information from the last time you registered. Just confirm or update your information, and you're done!
They sure do start early, it seems earlier every year (like the xmas shopping season)
If anyone wants to go next Jan., you can register at www.cesweb.org and if you don't work in consumer electronics, just make up some BS company name and print a business card (they usually ask for one when you arrive, and you may not get in without one). They don't verify if the company even exists (very lax security), so there's nothing to worry about there. Once you're in, you'll automatically get invited back every year. Lots of freebies, etc. (esp. if you're a member of the Press, they get royal treatment).
Since I'm only 200 miles from Vegas, I go every year. Not likely CES will be cancelled. I had heard about poor attendance at COMDEX last year from CES people, but I didn't know it was so bad that they'd cancel it. A sign of the times, I guess.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
I used to love Comdex. Haven't been since about 92. In fact, I won my first copy of Windows 3.0 for free at the 91 show!!
OK, so I'm old.
