  1. Hello!

Im trying to make an DVD-VCD. I have re-encoded the .mpg file from NTSC to PAL in tmpgenc as a single video and audio file. Video in .m1v format and the audio in .mp2. The audiofile has the following settings:

    MPEG-1 Audio Layer II
    480000 hz
    Stereo
    384 kbits/sec

When I try to import it into Scenarist it wont accept it.
    It says:

    Error DVD specification error.
    Error CRC off error.
    Info 0 file(s) accepted, 1 file(s) rejected

    But the videofile works fine.

Because Im making a DVD-SVD from a bunch of tv episodes, wich all are about 200 mb, i dont whant to use PCM Linear format of the audiofiles, which Scenarist will accept. That will make the audio file bigger than the
actual video. I want to fit 24 episodes on one dvd-r video disc. I only fit 9 when using NTSC which only supports PCM.

    Please help!

    Thanks

  2. I'm not sure about Scenarist since I mainly use DVDMaestro, but I believe you have to use AC3 if you want compressed sound.

  3. Thanks man!

It works with .ac3. But I think its a bit strange that the manual says that
    mpeg audio is supported....

    hmm well...

  4. Hi again!

Perhaps you can help me with a little problem with DVDMaestro.

I have two menus. The first has two buttons. The first plays all episodes. The second jumps to a "choose episode" menu. If I choose a episode and the episode ends i whant to jump back to the choose menu. If I choose to play all, each episode should jump to the next one...1,2,3..so on.

This is easy in scenarist, but i havent found any way to do it in maestro.

    Hope you can help me.
Or knows where I can find a manual.

  5. Yeah, these kind of things in Maestro are strange, but not too difficult. What you'll need to do is set the end action for each movie to a command sequence. You should take some time to get familiar with each command that you can execute in a command sequence, they're the key to doing anything complicated in Maestro.

What I did in this situation is have each button for play all set one of the global paramaters to 1. At the end of each clip, if the command sequence encounters that parameter as "1" it jumps to the next clip, and if its the default "0" then it just does a jump back to the menu. (I believe General Parameter is under "Set GPRM" and then selected as GP[0,1,2,3..] in Maestro...)

  6. Oh, and to do a jump on a conditional... ("If GPRM=x, then...") Just look on the right-hand side of the Command sequence box; you can set your conditional from there.

You won't need to be a programmer for this, but the logic behind it isn't the most straightforward.

  7. Ok.

I fixed it. Perhaps not the right way, but it works.

    I added three commands, 1. All(set gp0 = 0), 2. Episode(set gp0 = 1), 3. Check_Global(if gp0 = 0 jump to next episode, else gp0 = 1 jump to menu).

    Thanks for the help!

Your audio problem is quite simple, actually. When encoding with Tmpgenc, go to Audio Settings and Check the "Error Protection" checkbox. This enables CRC embedding in the audio stream.

Scenarist will only accept MPEG-2 audio streams with CRC, as per the DVD specs.

By the way, since you want to fit as many episodes on a single DVD, why waste so much space for 384kbps audio? I would be using 64kbps (or 128 at most). I have done several DVDs with not too demanding soundtracks using 64kbps and they playback fine on a 3 speaker system.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  9. Ok

    Thanks for the help!

    I will try that.

And the decrease the audio sample rate.

  10. Hi SaSi

Im just wondering if you know if Sceanarist kan have a Still menu with audio...because I can only add audio to a slideshow.

    Thanks

  11. No you can't have audio with a still menu on Scenarist. Just import the still as a slideshow, set the duration of the slideshow to the same as the audio and then just simply link the post back to itself in the layout tab.

Also about the CRC thing, its might not just be cause the CRC is off, it could be a problem with the audio encoding or a problem with the audio cable. I had the same problem and had to fork out for a new capture card cause the card was shot. Listern to the audio once encoded, if it comes out a mess then its another problem ( i know you fixed it with .ac3 but just a suggestion)

I use an ATI AIW 8500DV to capture mpeg2 video and audio -- is there some way to set ATI MMC tool to record the audio with CRC embedding to avoid having to go through the cpu-intensive tmpgenc "error protection" step. Perhaps some registry setting?

Do better mpeg capture cards allow for CRC embedding?

  13. What version of MMC are you using ?
CRC is alwys on on my system if capturing using the MPEG2-DVD preset.
