  1. I downloaded TPMGEnc 2.5 Plus trial. I tried it to convert 6 samll avi files to mpeg2 with VBR. Each has size between 40MB - 400MB.

I tried to use batch encode command but it never succeeded. Everytime it finishes a conversion, it quits silently. Or it froze at 50% twice, once at 98% when processing 400MB avi file.

The avi files were captured using VS 8 via firewire.

My system is P4 2.0GHz. TNPGEnc is CPU intensive. I guess P4 2.0GHz should be enough to handle 400MB files.

I don't think the trial version has any thing different from the retail version except 14 days trial period.

My impression is it's flixible and quality encoding. But it is very slow. The real issue is it crashes or freezes after hours work.

In terms of reliability, I think VS 8 is much better than TMPGEnc 2.5 Plus. VS 8 uses MainConcept encoder and it's faster and with high quality it produces bigger size files than TMPGEnc. That's because I use 8kbps CBR with MainConcept but use 2 pass VBR with TMPGEnc.

Can anyone explain why it crashes and freezes frequently and why the batch encode does not work at all?

If the batch encode works, I don't mind it's slow. I have a dedicate machine for processing even if it crashes or freezes once a whil.

    Thanks.

  3. BTW, there are twice in pass 2 the BR is 100 - 200. The final video are black. I noticed in pass 1 the BR was around 5000.

I set MAX BR 8000, AVR BR 6000 and MIN 2000 but the actual BR is about 4800, ocassionally 6000. I am wondering whether it's normal. I expected it's around 6000.

    Thanks.

  4. Reinstall? It's in a self-extracted file. No installer.

I had this problem, kept freezing, crashing between 2% to %90 ,after trying different things with no luck I decided to check my CPU tempreture, I downloaded motherboard monitor MBM5 checked my CPU temp and the alarm went off and a warning flashed up telling me it was to hot, 72 C was the CPU temprature when encoding because the chip was nearl in full use ,ripped off the side casing gave it a good dusting now runs in the 50c 's and TMPGEnc has never froze or crashed since.
