  1. We are backing up our DVD's using DXD Xcopy and the copies are bad near the end. They freeze up and jerk.

I am guessing from the forum that this is bad media. At first I was using cheap "Starlocic" DVDs and then I tried "Hypermedia" and "Imation". Imation seemed to last the longest, but still got bad.

Is there a media that is generally recommended?

    Thank you

Also, get a tool called DvdInfopro which identify the media id of a dvd disk. (see the tools section)

  3. DVD XCopy is generally thought to be inferior. There are better freeware options available, e.g. DVDShrink, DVDRebuilder, etc. Be that as it may, does XCopy have an option to lower target filesize? For example, in DVDShrink go to Edit>Preferences>Target DVD Size. Enter Custom and change 4464 to 4200 or less, many would say 4000. It's the edge that causes problems on crap-quality DVDRs, so back off a bit. This method often works, and if you have any doubtful DVDRs left, try it.

Right now Taiyo-Yudens seem to have the best reputation, someone else will tell you all about them, I'm sure. Or do a search.
