  4. I mean their retail stores carry them. Not online. I have never seen a Yamaha authorized online store. From what I hear authorized stores are not allowed to sell them online. Don't know why. Here is the only store I can find online. I don't think they have the full USA manuf. warranty.

No info. Yamaha has made good stuff in the past, I'd be curious to see one myself.

  7. Hey thanks for the link. It sounds like a great recorder. It does not mention it has a built in TBC. It's expensive than the JVC so if it does not have one I would be surprised.

The problem with the DRX-1 is the limited recording time options, It has a 1-hour mode, then it jumps up to 2.5 hours. No 2-hour (SP) mode and no FR mode. Quality is supposed to be excellent, if you can put up with the timing limitations and high price. It appears to be different with the DRX-2 but not sure how good the quality is.

  9. I just got my DRX-2, which is my first DVD recorder so I can't say much how it compares to other recorders. First of all, it is supposed to be a modified Philips DVDR77. I guess that means Philips quality instead of Yamaha quality...

Only differences I have heard of is that in 1hr and 2hr modes, the Yamaha records the audio as PCM (Philips uses AC3) and 8hr is not supported by the Yamaha.

Personally i prefer the Yamaha design over the Philips.

I am slightly dissapointed with the quality of the tuner, but then again, I have no other DVD recorders to compare with. But the tuner in my Sony TV, and also my Sony VHS VCR is much better. Clearly sharper image. Still, of course, the actual recording quality is of course much better then the Sony VCR...

EDIT: Stupid me... There really isn't much problem with the quality of the tuner. As it turns out my TV has problems accepting RGB signals. Using S-Video or Composite I get much better image. The differences compared to the TV tuner is very small. So forget about my comment above. It is a good recorder.
