mpeg, Xvid, Divx etc. capture-Mainconcept alternative?

The only capture program I have seen that captures to any codec installed on my system is the Mainconcept program. Are there any others? The MC works nice, but the timer doesn't work.

Also, I purchased a Plextor m402u which does mpg-2, 4 and divx via hardware. It works fine, but the mpeg2 captures do not come out as nice as when I capture to mpeg using software and my canopus so I will be sending it back (unless some one here wants to buy it!)
