Were not asking for sexual preference, religion, politics, or anything like wether you're an alien or not. Just wondering what you consider yourself, out of the selections, that fits MOSTLY towards yourself.

Gamer - Play video games more than anything else; improve computer for gaming purposes; includes burning DVD games

Ripper - Listen to music mostly; work on car and home audio predominantly; may create, edit and make own music to rip to disc; includes ripping MP3s

Burner - Movie collector or connoisseur of fine films; avidly has anything to do with graphics and video; works to get best visual experience including large screen or monitor with best clarity; does anything to get movie greats, even if rare or hard to find; may create, author, and edit own video to burn to disc; includes DVD video burning

Machinist - MAC or PC user dedicated to making the most powerful comp. just for bragging rights or for creating sofisticated programs; gotta have the top of the line and latest computer equipment; includes robotics, webdesign, data burn & HD storage

Text Pimp - Has to know and read as much information and books as possible, just for the sheer fun of it; AKA bookworm; Works to expand book library more than anything; Has to print everything for a physical paper copy; May keep physical storage of documents

Decker - Plays card games (layout strategy falls in this category) more than anything else; most money is spent on the latest and greatest card or piece to make deck or collection as good and strong as possible; spends most time in local, and higher, tournaments; may include game play of more than one type of game style/decks(IE: Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Magic, WarHammer, etc.)

Wanker - One who spends time complaining to others about wasting time and money on projects; has very little passion for anything; includes sitting on couch with TV off and staring into space; doesn't date much or go to parties; occasionally watches some TV or rents about 1 or 2 movies a month.

Definately a Text Pimp. Our last move costs us $7,500.00 When we broke out the costs by weight, it cost $3,000 just to move my technical library! Before the movers even came, I gave away almost 200 books!

I promised my wife that before we move again, I will try to get it down to less than 15 bookcases.....

    Anyone need some reading material?

Definately a gamer I have a 100cd holder filled with nothing but games, just wish I had more time to do it.
2nd choice would be burner, Love to make custom menus and such from my home camcording, prefer to use dvd lab for authoring.

I would consider myself a burner with gamer following close behind. My wife would consider me as a machinist though. But she just doesn't really pay attention to what I'm doing while I'm on the computer ignoring everything around me.

I think a crazed "burner" would become a "machinist" by your definition. In the pursuit of the fastest video workstation you have to go after the best and fastest. I'd call myself a "machinist" though the pursuit brought me here. However I came up short of the "latest and greatest" in computer technology with my current PC

I think I am two thirds RIPPER, one third BURNER I have a huge collection of music and a medium collection of video. RIPPER+BURNER, hehe, these names remind me a little of the prison-names thread.

I also like tinkering with my computer hardware, but that is an expensive habit that I can't afford. I do enough reading for school that I don't want to read anything that isn't accompanied by a "screenshot" or "picture of product".

Of course, I am also a Wanker for life.

Ok, pac - caught you! There's currently only one vote showing for Text Pimp, and it was the one I cast! If you want to be a Text Pimp, you have to cast the vote! Otherwise, all these computer geeks and graphics junkies will have more votes than us intellectuals!

  14. This would definitely be me -

Though as far as best clarity goes...sometimes I'll settle for less, if that's all I can get.

When I'm online it's usually due to killing some time while I'm burning or encoding files on my other computer.

Even though I pretty much know what I'm doing now, I still consider myself a Rookie...I'll always be learning something new along the way.

I also try very hard not to be a smartass 8)

Trying to be good here and I'm pretty much easy-going

I'm a gamer for the most part. I also have a bit of ripper and burner in me. I like to read once in a while...which also puts me in text pimp category. Where's the "more than one of the above" option?

I was right there with you... until I got a nice reciever and a set of 5.1 speakers.

there's a point beyond which I won't go, but I'm sure glad that my tenant is replacing his 42" widescreen tv with a 65", and trading me the 42" in exchange for a reduced rent for a couple of months....

Just watch for the sales. I got my 52" as an open box special at Circuit City 3 years ago. Marked down from $2,395 to $1,849.

well, i'm thinking of a projector really. if the house is laid out the way i want i'll be about 15 feet from the screen, so probably want 70"-80"
Depends if i can find a projector with an image that size i'm happy with. we'll see.

Strange. The exact same thing happened to us at Ultimate Electronics. We were looking at the base 53" Sony and the guy came up and offered to look at the "scratch and dent" list for us. We got the best of the three Sony 53" models, instead of the lowest, for the same price as the low one. It was marked down from $2929 to $2250 and the best thing about it - there were no scratches or dents. The guy said it was on there by mistake, but once there it had to stay there. Sweet

I was looking at HDTV Projectors. But I might as well get a 65" set for much less than it's cost.

Also, this thread is for what area you find yourself in mostly. Someone who goes to the movie theaters 6 or 7 times a week would probably fall under burner along with someone who has a DVD collection larger than a rental store, but still watches it on his 13" RF input only television with the cables going through an old Beta player. The examples are just there to better define the lines between each category.

Yeah, on ours, they had delivered it to the customer, but three days later he lost his job and returned it under the 14 day rule. So we bought it, and then three weeks later I lost my job! There's some kind of curse on this TV! Any way, gave me something decent to watch for 5 weeks until they asked me to come back to work for them again...

Who makes a 65" conventional set? Biggest i see on the Sony website is 40" or are you on about a rear projection TV?

Even those are stupid prices over here, biggest i can find is a toshiba 51" set, and that's $2573! and then a 42" plasma is $5515! makes the screenplay 5700 DLP projector a more attractive option at £4965.

  29. By conventional TV, most people mean CRT (Cathode Ray Tube / Electron Beam Scanning) based televisions. Don't know of any larger than 40"

As for what am I ....
