I'm currently using Ulead Movie Factory 3 to convert some AVI files from a TV series into DVD. The program converts and burns everything correctly into DVD format but the problem is when I watch it on TV. The movies have subtitles on them and appear correct on my computer as AVI's but after converting them to the DVD format it appears to have clipped off a portion of the outside edge of the movie. So when I watch the movies on TV a portion of the subtitles are clipped off as well. I've tried converting it into the differect aspect ratios that Ulead offers but the results are the same.
I'm wondering it this is because I'm missing a step in my conversion process or maybe if Ulead Movie Factory 3 is just not a good program for this..?
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Bryan

What you are referring to is called overscan. Television adds this to correct any abnormalities on the edges.
Simplest solution is to add a border around your video during conversion (if Ulead allows) of about 16-22 pixels.
Ulead has a button for the "television safe" area, where it will show a little dashed frame around the menu to show you what will actually be seen on the TV.
here's a more detailed analysis -
Hmmmm.... I don't see any "Television Safe" mode anywhere but at least now I know what the problem is. I'm just using a Trial Version at this point and currently trying to figure out what program will be the best at creating DVD's while still being very user friendly (For us non-Tech guys). I don't know but maybe the Full Version will have this mode, unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything on the Ulead website about Overscanning (In Movie Factory).
Any suggestion on other user-friendly DVD Burning software would be appreciated.

Tmpgenc dvd author is very easy to use and has that safe area lines to show the overscan area and has a burn feature after making the dvd files has a 30 day demo period to try it out.
