The goal is to get cable TV on the computer with subtitles.
I used Super TV Tuner (based on Conexant 878A) with enclosed Easy TV capturing software and successfully have got video and sound on my computer. The video/sound was saved as .avi file and plaid back without subtitles. Though the ability to get closed captures was mentioned in advertisement for this product I could not find any explanation how to get it.

I tried also to play captured .avi file back with Windows Media Player v.9 (subtitle option was activated). No subtitles were observed.

Please advise what direction I should go to handle this task.

    Thank you

  2. I do not know your card and may be 100% wrong. AFAIK any
reference to the ability to get closed captures is for viewing only
and not for recording. Terrestrial broadcast subs cannot be captured with
    consumer equipment.

Not sure what "your" definition of broadcast subs is but if it includes closed caption and/or teletext streams then it is possible; a simple TV tuner or cap card with TV-in paired with Graphedit as shown in this thread. All made possible by McPoodle.
