hi,
i have been doing video editing for a couple of years now. i have been copying dvds for about 9 months now also.
just recently i have had a few problems with various programs.
problem 1 -
a lot of the time when i load an mpg file into windows media player or windows media player classic and hit file/properties it returns the resolution incorrectly. some clips that are 352x288 and some are 720x576 and they tend to report at 720x520 a lot or some other weird resolutions that are incorrect.
problem 2 -
just recently any files i encode in adobe premiere or virtual dub as DIVX 5 and try to open in tmpgenc plus later to encode to mpg end up with the following problem. they play for the right length of time, they have sound but the picture is just a blank screen. this has never happened to me before (i know i can encode to mpg from premiere ect but sometimes i need the inbetween step of divx)
cheers

Hi stackner,
Problem 1 - Check out MPEGProperties. I've not used it myself, but it looks like it might do the job. Failing that AVICodec will give you some basic info.
Problem 2 - Sorry, can't help on that one. Except to ask the question why do you encode to Divx? Look into frameserving from either Adobe Premiere or VirtualDub to TMPGEnc and you might avoid going via Divx. I use PluginPac FrameServer.
Hope that helps...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.

thanx for your reply.
for problem 1 i will try the programs. i still have to wonder why its reporting wrong though all of a sudden.
for problem 2 i already frameserve most of the time but hanx for the idea. and as for encoding to divx sometimes i do this for other projects (not dvd/vcd) then later want to encode that to dvd/vcd is just ONE example of when i encode to divx then wanna convert that to mpg
