MAY not work if you already have the LiteOn's second part of 1163 installed.

    This is for the 5001.
    I know nothing about this,
just saw something good, didn't want it to slip by.

    Good luck!
Could you provide some more detailed instructions on how do this?

    Thanks....

    Johnny,

Here is the link to LiteOn forum:

    http://220.130.29.146/ikonboard.cgi?s=e37dfa83ddd0506d16eef6dfd8b41b0f;act=SF;f=2

Read recent threads about 1163 and you will find all information.

    zleepy,

    It works.
Yesterday I installed two parts of original 1163 firmware. Later I installed hacked part 2 of 1163 with disabled macrovision and it worked. Today I installed again part 2 of 1163 firmware with another hack that enables LP (3 hours) mode. And it works.

So, now I have macrovision permanently disabled, and I have LP (3 hours) mode.

Can somebody give me these files? I want ones from your personal collection that you know for-sure worked for you.

I can't get it to work.

Trying to HEX the files myself just made a mess (machine error'd). The files in the Yahoo briefcase off the other site are not hacked it looks like.

    I did DS1 then D11 hacked .. reading instructions. Didn't work.

Then later instructions elsewhere say to do DS1 then official D11 then hacked D11. So I started over. It did not take.

I tried the UltraEDIT HEX edit the D11 file. I did what the other site said. No luck. Machine error. I had to reburn the "hacked" (official one I think, from the briefcase) to CD-RW and it fixed the machine.

Guys, this one is above my head. I need help here. I want 3-hour and I want MV off. But I need something simpler than some of the archaic instructions on the other site and then a briefcase file that may have changed recently (because as I read, some sissies apparently griped that the experimental fw update trashed the units).

Mine is 1 day old. I'll try whatever I need. I can easily return it for another.

Okay, thanks to help via e-mail and other communications, I got it.

However, all these conflicting instructions, fake files (and CRC failed files) and e-mail whisperings really suck. So, here's the quick-n-dirty guide: www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/liteon.htm to make your LiteOn 5001 region-free, Macrovision-free and to enable 3-hour LP mode recordings !!!

  8. I just applied the 2nd hacked disk and everything appears to work properly, and I'm seeing the 3hr LP mode that wasn't there before. This hack is different from the one I saw before. The other one only involved the 1st disk....

  10. Hi,

I tried with the instructions. The first and second update went ok. I noticed that it write A-UP nn and then do a second pass d-UP xx on the player display.

When I tried the third hacked update from DigitalFaq, it did the A-UP to 99 and quicky tried the d-UP xx but went directly to the message update done. (like it did not want to update the hacked file ?)

When I reopen the unit, my serial does not seem to have change from step 2. Serial is 0101-0143-1163-F2SC(110-010B) and does not start with 010- like stated on DigitalFaq and I do not have the macrovision menu with the region code when I do the remote hack 2960.

The original post from zleepy state not to update the part 2 before fixing it. I guess that the hack from DigitalFaq is a part 2 but it claims to do part 2 from Liteon before. This is confusing...

I tried to do setup 1 and then step 3 directly again. Seems that step 1 does not downgrade and stays with the same serial.

Do you have an older firmware before 1161 that could allow to redo the process again ?

Any other clue ? Does that mean that macrovision will always be disabled but not visible thru the menu ? What is your serial number after you installed the hack ? As I remember it did not changed between step 2 and 3.

    Thanks,

    -Pierre

A-UP is for mother board, d-UP is for drive. Since the drive is already F2SC, the update process skips the drive part.

(XXX-0109) the first letter is reginal code, 2nd letter for macrovision (1 for off, 0 for on). The factory default is (100-0109). In your case,110 means reginal code 1 for US and macrovison is off.
