Hi folks,
I'm a newb here but I've done a bit of research and think I know what the cause of my problems are but I could do with confirmation to put my mind at rest.
I built myself a new PC a few weeks back and added a Lite-On 411SX external DVD burner (dual format).
Using Nero 6.3.1.10, CloneDVD and DVDShrink I could not get a playable DVD-R (Datawrite yellows burned at 2x and 4x) though most DVD+RWs were fine.
When burning DVD-Rs I would sometimes get an error in Nero at the Lead-In write saying 'SCSI command aborted'. The drive would then lock up for 5 or 10 minutes before ejecting the coaster. On other occasions burning would go okay but the DVD-R would jump about and freeze in my two year old Toshiba SD-420E standalone.
I did a search here and on the Nero website and I think I have rectified the 'SCSI' problem by changing a registry file to disable autostart on all CD-ROMs. I also upgraded to Nero 6.3.1.15. Since then I have burned three or four DVD-R's without the SCSI problem appearing.
BUT...there's still a problem playing them in my standalone. the yellow Datawrites will barely function at all. TDKs burned at 2x play better than the Datawrites but start to skip towards the final chapters. Ritek G04's skip in the early chapters but play towards the end without incident. All three play fine in a friends Panny.
So, the conclusion I have come to is that I had/have two problems:
i) Problem with Nero 'SCSI command aborted'
ii) My Tosh doesn't like DVD-Rs although it will very occasionally play one without skipping.
Anybody think of anything I haven't considered before I shell out on a new standalone? I am trying a selection of +Rs to see what results I get with them. If they work fine I guess I'll use them in the meantime.
Thanks,
Ratso

have you tried another burning app? get shrink to rip to an .iso file and burn it using dvddecrypter - Nero has had a lot of issues down the road -
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try though I'm pretty sure it's my standalone at this point.

I use the latest shrink /nero ( latest ) combo. I can burn from the best TY media to the crappiest Comp USA 1x ( burns at 2x ) on any my three daisy chained external firewire DVD/RW/Rr+-8x Sony DRU530 ul. Everything plays on all my players (6 of them )
They play on your firend's players,,, don't play well on yours,,,
The obvious answer is,,,,,,No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
