Im looking into getting some form of printer for printing direct onto CD/DvD. Has anyone any recommendations to which I should choose?
I aint got a ruck full of cash, so the cheaper the better. I have looked at the Epson R200 and the TDK printer. I am a newbie to this so all information would be cool, ie, the TDK advertises as a 'Thermal" printer, so this not print direct on the Disc? Also, reading some old post on here, is there a waiting time once you have printed onto the disc? How available and costly are the replacement inks. As you can see, I aint got a clue, someone help me, PLEASE!!!!

Another vote for the Canon i865, although from what I hear, some countries are not getting shipped any Canon printers.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. I cant find i865 at reasonable price in Norway, even the cheapest is equivalent to more than $250. Are there any chepaer canon models that can print directly on disk?

Not AFAIK. I paid $AUD 288.00 for mine and it is the best money I ever spent.

I firmly believe that you get what you pay for when it comes to computer hardware from trusted brands.
    If in doubt, Google it.

unfortunately I paid A$349 for mine a few months ago , but the money i spend on ink compared to the HP5550 i owned has more than paid for the canon i865. I have seen it advertised at www.fluidtek.com.au for $270

    I am most impressed

  10. Tnx Jimmalenco. I will not buy any other brand than canon when it comes to digital picture. Anyway, what do you think about NOK 1904 = AUD 406 = USD 283 = £155? Still have to add around NOK 100 for P&P. I just forget about it for now

That is such a pity. I guess you have to way up the exobitant cost of importing against quaaaaality output. I sympathize with you.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  12. Ink CD printers include:

    Epson 1500
    - expensive but meant for pro's only

    Epson 800
    - expensive "prosumer" model

    Canon i965 -
    - cheapest "prosumer" photoprinter = in quality to Epson 800 but faster

    Canon i865
    - Only four color + special black so best for text & photo printing

    Epson 300
    - cheap photo printer with "pro" results but slow

    Epson 200
    - slightly cut down version of the 300.

All the above printers do a fantastic job on printable DVD media.
All results look similar, the Canon i965 looks more glossy.
All dry in about the same time- instant to overnight depending on the
media and amount of ink printed. The Canon media insert is superior
    to the Epson.

just letting you know the generic inks work great in this printer , i am currently paying $6 per tank for summit inks from the computer markets , not sure how the other generics are as i have had great success with the summits that i am afraid to change , as for people saying generics ruin your printer , well all i can say is it costs me $30 for the five tanks compared to $150 for the originals , the money i have saved so far would have bought 2 more canons , my brother and a few of his friends have the same printer and they also use the generics without any problems. as for longevity of the ink only time will tell , but i don't think that will be a major concern as most of my prints are dvd covers which are protected by the sleeve and they are stored out of direct sunlight , I back up all my photos ,so if they fade i will just print another one

I'm refilling my own cartridges - I have a mate who has a mate that runs a refilling business and can supply me with the inks at excellent prices. I am paying $250 for 500ml each of the five inks. I don't think I'll be running out of ink too soon !
    If in doubt, Google it.
