    Just saw this link:
    http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=SVBIZINK3.story&STORY=/www/story/05-...2004,+09:30+AM

That Roxio will have a free download in June, to allow Toast 6 to burn dual-layer DVDs.

  3. Easy question:
I have an Apple Superdrive (A07 I think PIoneer) - Does this mean that I am going to have to get a new DVD burner if I want to use DVD9?? or will I be able to burn off of the same burner?

They actually had an experimental firmware update to allow the pioneer 107 to do this

However, pioneer will want to make some money so I am pretty sure that the firmware will never get released to the general public but the next pioneer drive will burn dvd 9 disks though without having to use program like dvdshrink

My assumption is that it'll be automatic

  8. Yeah, ... the extraction method will give us one file (about 7and a half to 8 gigs- then we'd just drag into toast (instead of compressing) and that would make our 3 step procedure 2 steps. Nice

Do current rippers preserve the dual layer break bit from the original DVD? If so, then the upgraded Toast should have to do nothing but burn the VIDEO_TS folder quite like today's version does.

Current rippers don't touch the layer break point mark. The proof is that DVD2OneX can detect it and use that as a splitting point.

Illegal bump of a post. I'm reporting you :P
Wouldn't it be nice if Pioneer would at least sell you the firmware upgrade?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

No one knows the exact release date for the upgrade? I checked at Roxio's site, but no info.
