I have an AVI file with DiVX 4 Fast Motion encoding for the video, and no encoding for audio. How can I encode the audio to mp3? I have heard about AC3, is this any good and worth getting?

There are a bazillion guides on here for converting from MPEG-4 formats (such as DivX and Xvid) to VCD, SVCD, DVD etc.
I suggest you take a look see at some of them!
