All Sound Recorder XP works awesome. It costs $20-30. I think it was worth it. It is simple to use becuase it records any thing you can hear on your pc speakers. I got it mainly to record streaming audio, but it works well with dvds. I usually go with freeware, but I couldn't find anything good for the streaming.

The freeware way I've done it is with DVD2AVI.

I agree. Just rip your DVD in chapter mode (one VOB each chapter), Open them one by one in DVD2AVI, set you audio preferences, save project. Now you have a nice wav from the DVD chapter audio to write to CD or encode to MP3. But the imToo tool is actually pretty cool too if you don't like the tekkie approach to doing things...

Use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. Use Stream Processing to only demux the audio and set the split to "By Chapter". Then convert to MP3 using your favorite conversion software.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Cool! Simpler than the DVD2AVI method I've used previously, but still using only freeware. I like that!

    jimmalenko,

What audio stream is created using this method? Is there an option
to convert it directly to WAV from DVDDecrypter? If so, I don't think I've
    seen that option.

    Thanks,

  13. That's assuming the DVD in question has PCM audio to begin with.

Otherwise you still must convert the audio from AC-3 or DTS to WAV, and then convert it to MP3.

  15. Once you extract the .wav, can you reinsert it back into the original DVD source to create a new audio track for the DVD?

Which authoring program will let me do that?

here's my thread on the matter for more info on what I'm on about: http://65.54.184.250/cgi-bin/linkrd?_lang=EN&lah=7bb0f2857e23bb1f11a4c25d9d704873&lat=...98134%23898134

  16. I'd like to extract the audio from a TV program that I recorded also. I found the guide and this thread, so I tried DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, but it says to use ISO mode. I did that and got 3 files, an I00, I01, and an MDS file ... now what?
