  1. How do you know which format you are burning in, and how can you switch formats?

  2. 1) where do you live? NTSC is for North America. PAL is for Europe. Not many devices in those areas handle both formats.

    2) what software are you using?

It's not burned in any format - it's encoded in NTSC or PAL format.

Actually most devices (DVD players and TV's ) sold in europe these handle both NTSC and PAL correctlt.

Look over to the top left of this page. Under WHAT IS you will find sections for DVD, VCD and SVCD. Each one lists the different technical specs for NTSC and PAL versions.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I live in the United States.

I have encoded VCDs before using NTSC specifications, so I am familiar with the topics.

What I am doing now is burning DVD .vob files etc, to DVDRs for playback on my Sony standalone DVD player. I am burning them through Nero, and I want to know if there is a way I can be sure, and/or specify that Nero burns the DVD with the correct format.

In that case the NTSC/PAL issue is determined by the contents of those files and the burning software has no effect.

If you need to know, open one of the vob files in bitrate viewer and check the mpeg properties (frame rate, resolution) to determine if it is PAL or NTSC.

Try a forum search for something like "PAL to NTSC". There are loads of threads covering this problem as it is quite common and non-trivial. Also take a good look through the guides as I am sure it is covered somewhere.

  11. So is there a easy way to convert a NTSC vob to PAL?

I have a series of vobs all PAL and 2 vobs (special features ripped from a seperat DVD) witch are NTSC, the thing is my DVD player can not handel multi types of PAL and NTSC, can play either fine but only one or the other.

I need to convert the VOBs into proper pal, so 720x576@25fps from 720x480@30fps

Anyhelp... I have been using canopus pro coder but it can not import VOB files for encoding??

Even if I haven't tried myself, judging by what I know of AVI frame rate conversions and the number of posts regarding NTSC DVD to PAL DVD (or vice versa), I'd say: No.

  13. Nero Start Smart, Nero Vision Express, the Star and then burn your own DVD video, More, Video Properties, General, NTSC or PAL - your country.

A program like AVICodec will tell you if your video or VOB is Pal or NTSC. Pal is 25fps and NTSC is 29.97fps. Sizes are different, too.

    http://www.dvfilm.com/atlantis/index.htm

It will convert both ways easily.

There are other programs that do the same thing, convert one to the other.
