Nearly but not quite. As we are talking PAL and E suffix kit, I assume you are in the UK (or Europe at least). Consumer level European camcorders usually have DV IN disabled due to the strange import duties that Customs apply to them. They can be enabled by various methods, but the most reliable is by use of a thing known as a Widget. Have a look at www.dvstuff.co.uk and click on the DV-In Enablers link on the left of the page. They list one suitable for your camcorder as available. This enables DV In so you can record from the Firewire (I-Link) socket and the analogue out socket becomes an In/Out.

I use one with a TR-8000E (the last of the Digital 8 camcorders without the LCD screen) as a passthrough device to convert analogue video to Firewire as well as recoding to D8 tape.

If the camcorder doesn't have analog video in then it doesn't have analog video in and you are buggered!

Either buy another camcorder that does feature analog in with analog-to-digital pass-thru or buy a capture device for the computer such as the Canopus ADVC-100 (in which case any analog video source simply plugs into your computer's capture device).

If you only have a small handfull of PAL VHS tapes to convert to DVD then you might look for a service that does this. Some companies offer such a service. You give them the PAL VHS and they in turn give you the tape back AND a DVD-R version of it. Of course you pay a lot per tape so you would only want to do that if you only have a few tapes to do.

Otherwise it is cheaper to do it yourself by buying the equipment you need and doing the conversion yourself.

That camera should have standard analog in/passthrough capabilities.
Only to enable the DV-in/Record capabilities you need to change the firmware codes.

My TRV120E could passthrough an anolog signal via the firewire without modification. (If you want to RECORD or use the DV-in you need to modify it)

Just use the right cables and connectors. The included SCART converter/connector will NOT work!
