  1. Anybody know if there is a DVD Recorder out there (or will be soon) that has DVI out and upscales to 720p/1080i?

  4. Which model? I don't see one with DVI output. Some have firewire out... is that what you meant? DVI is a digital video output, not DV firewire. Bravo D1, Momitsu 880, Samsung HD931 have this and upscale to 720p/1080i as well.

  7. No DVI specified on the Pioneer 510 or 520. Anyway, I already have a Bravo D1 with DVI. I was thinking if a recorder was coming out with DVI output I could save some space. Right now, I don't use my DVD recorder for playback. Recording only. The upscaled 720p DVI signal the Bravo sends to my 46" DLP is far superior to using the analog component output. Noticeably sharper and more detailed. Only drawback is artifacts of poorly encoded DVD's are more noticeable. Superbit "Fifth Element" is stunning. Best film to DVD transfer I know of.

The Toshiba RD-XS53 will be one of the first DVD recorders with HDMI connection and 720p and 1080i upconversion capability and coming in October:

  9. Thanks! $699 - Yikes! Street price about $500? It does come with 160GB HDD, though. Hmmm... maybe if I sell -

  12. That Pioneer Elite 57H ($1800!) doesn't appear to have a DVI output, either. At least it is not mentioned anywhere on the Pioneer website or in the specs. I found a picture of the back of the unit and I don't see one there. Nice looking piece, though...
