I have had the Pioneer DVR-A03 DVD recorder for about 2 months now and have yet to be able to create a DVD. I have tried burning directly from editing software ("MyDVD" and "Ulead MovieFactory". I have also tried creating a disc image and then copying to a DVD-RW using "Prassi Primo DVD". I am using a DVD-RW disc so as not to trash a DVD-R. I keep getting the following message:

    Data disc terminated with errors.

    Error-10 at sector 31504 - command:2A
    Sense:04 ASC:08 ASCQ:01

My system setup: Dell Dimension XPS T700r (700mhz), 128MB ram, 10GB internal hard drive, 40GB external hard drive, Windows/98SE.

If anyone can help me here, I would appreciate it.

  2. I had the same problem. The solution for me was to install the A03 as the primary device on the IDE interface. After that it worked just fine.

P.S I'm using the VOB Instant CD+DVD. Wich was shipped with the A03.

  3. I also had this problem, I disabled "DMA if available" and set my IDE to PIO only. No problems since.

A little of a novice here. What does "PIO" mean and to set the A03 as a primary device, does this encompass just changing the jumpers or will I need to change the cable order, also?

    Thanks for your prompt replies.

  5. PIO=programmable input/output, it uses the CPU for data transfer, DMA mode does not. In Windows 2000 or XP Right click My Computer and chose properties. Then chose the Hardware tab. Click the Device manager button. Now expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" entry. Double click the primary or secondary IDE channel entry (whichever has your burner attached). Chose the Advanced Setting tab. Under transfer mode, chose PIO Only. You only need to do this for the channel (device 0 or device 1 i.e. master and slave) These settings are determined by the jumper settings on your drives. If in doubt, set everything to PIO. Do a test burn. If OK, try setting one of your devices back to DMA which is faster and do another test burn.

Hope this helps, I've had no coasters since I made this change.

  7. Yes, going from memory you should be able to right click My Computer and chose properties. Then chose the device manager tab. Then expand the cdrom entry. Double click drive and chose the settings tab. Then uncheck the DMA box. Reboot. Burn!

  8. I'm using A03 with VOB and MyDVD and I can tell you that VOB the burning software dosn't burn anything without DMA anabled for A03. MyDVD can with or without DMA burn a CD-r or DVD-R.

  9. I can't speak to My DVD or VOB but Primo DVD seems to like PIO mode. So does Spruce DVD premaster tool . I usually use Spruce Up, and have never been able to get it to burn correctly.

I disabled DMA in the system settings and then burned a test DVD onto a new DVD-RW disc. Everything went well. Thanks for the help everyone.
