  1. Just got Vegas 5+DVD and have been reading the manual but it's about as confusing to me as anything can be. Does anyone know of a GOOD book on this program that is a little more elementary. I've looked at all the guides I can find but I'm still lost. Guess I'm just getting too old to learn new tricks.

A quick Google search turned this this. Only problem is that it hasn't been released yet. It won't come out until the fall. :P

  3. See if you can get a guide for Vegas 4. If version 5 is your first exposure to the Vegas lineup then a v.4 guide might at least get you started on some of the basics. I'd assume that the two have enough basic similarities to last you for a little while.

  4. You should try reading the Adobe Premiere Manual, then the the Vegas manual will seem simple.

I think that since both of these programs are considered "Professional", that's who they write for. Sonic Foundry used to make an entry level program called Video Studio, it had the same basic interface as Vegas without all the bells and whistles. I think is was limited as to how many tracks of audio and video you could use. But, I think it was written for the regular guy. You could get familiar with this and when you switch back to Vegas it won't be so overwhelming.

How can you get it? I don't know. Since Sony purchased Sonic Foundry Media, I don't know if they still have the 30 day trials, and they may have renamed it. They have something called "Screen Blast" (i think), which is supposed to be entry level. If the interface looks like your Vegas, it may be the old Video Studio (renamed). Browse their website and see what you can find. Good Luck.
If it works, don't fix it.
