  1. I have limited by choice of DVD Recorders to either the Pioneer
DVR-510H-S or the Toshiba RD-SX32. Does anyone have any input on these? Thanks!

  3. For a limited time only download the Toshiba RD-XS32 manuals from the following link:

For the Pioneer models (although the link doesn't work for me) :

  4. Both models have gotten fairly good reviews, and the Toshiba is a tweek geek's fantasy unit, however, a few caveats are still in order. One, the Pioneer doesn't have a TBC and many have noted trouble in dubbing some vhs tapes. The Toshiba unit on the other hand still has the Black Level Bug which plagued their earlier units.

I'd lean towards the Pioneer models myself.

I concur ... if the choice was Pioneer or Toshiba I'd go with Pioneer if for no other reason than the black level bug (of the Toshiba) although that doesn't affect PAL or Japanese NTSC but does affect all other forms of NTSC such as USA and Canada forms.

  7. Note there will be replacements soon for both (scheduled for June):

    Pioneer DVR-520H
    Toshiba RD-XS53

  8. Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I will take Lucien's advice and wait until the new models come out in June and see if they fixed the problems mentioned.

problems won't be fixed as they don't perceive them to be problems in the first place.

But who knows for sure, maybe they'll both surprise us. Of the two, Pioneer is more likely to fix their blackout problem than Toshiba to fix their blacklevel problem.

  11. I go with Panasonic. Pioneer has bad TBC can not copy some VHS tape's. Toshiba has a black level problem.
