Yesterday I decided to check if the CCD of my Sony DCR HC-15 camcorder had the so called 'hot' pixels. For that purpose I shot the complete darkness with the lens closed up by a cover for a few seconds and then watched the result on a TV via an S-Video cable. To my big disappointment I could see a lot of dark grey spots twinkling all over the screen. As far as those spots appeared in different location I thought that they were rather an ordinary noise but not the 'hot' pixels.
So my question is what the acceptable level of such a noise should be for that particular camcorder? Is it OK that I could distinguish it so clearly by eye or it's a defect of my camcorder?
