im new to this so please bear with me. what program rips the dvd's into mpeg or avi the quickest and best , around how long would it take?

Hello,
I don't know which program rips directly to mpg but that would add to the time. Dvddecrypter will rip the vobs to the harddrive. I have a 12x read time burner and it takes 10-20min on average (amd 850). To convert the vobs to mpeg takes awhile depending on your system. Check the tools section on the left for freebies. Tmpgenc will do this but has a 30 day trial limit on mpg2 (dvd) output. This can take a long time on older systems.

Using DVDDecrypter or SmartRipper, you can rip the audio andvideo in Stream mode, thus no VOB conversion (Just re-mux, or not).
