Looking to make a good quality video of a game I play online. I already have the ADVC-100 and 2 fast pc's. Most people that make videos of this online game use Fraps but it's low quality at best. Would it be worth my time to get a TV out card and cap with ADVC-100? Or should I look at other options?
Thanks
both PC's have ATI -9700 pro
3200xp 1gb ram
400gb hd w/ 240gb free drive
not listing sound cards cause it's not needed for this

seems a bit of a round-about way to do it, but as long as your TV-out is aceptable quality this will work. i'd play on one machine and connect the ADVC to the other.
don't forget this solution is low quality as well, while your TV out may claim it's 1024x768, an S-video cable can't carry that much resolution, and the DV you capture it to will be 720x480. for that reason i'd set my TV out to 640x480. -
I have actually done this to capture video from my PC racing simulators. I used the TV out of my Radeon 9800 pro. I set it to 1024x768 @60hz, wait for vsync on. I used the s-video out and analog audio out to the ADVC-100, which was hooked up to another PC. I experienced no dropped frames, perfect sound sync, and most importantly, no loss of frame rate in the game itself. I think this is a compromise, because the ideal way would be through a very high quality scan converter to video capture. A great little device for this is the Canopus TwinPact 100.
What many people apparently do not understand is the effect of FRAPS and other similar computer graphics engine capture methods on frame rates and sound.
If you want to capture a 2 frame per second slide show with out of sync or no sound, go ahead and use the same PC to play the game and capture it at the same time.
More info on the TwinPact100. They say it "is the world's first multifunctional video converter to feature on-screen graphics to analog and digital video conversion, digital video capture of on-screen graphics and bi-directional analog / digital video conversion. Integrating Canopus's proprietary Media and Track and Zoom technologies, TwinPact100 provides the highest-quality video conversion with unmatched functionality. "
