I think CD Freeks has a media test. Has anyone here tried the Verbatim 2.4x DL media yet? This is the stuff they are selling at americal.com

It would be interesting to here your experiences

  2. Not yet. When they (really) start coming out you'll see them in the media area, I'm sure.

  3. If they are the purple printed tops, I had some from Office Depot a month ago. They won't work in my Plextor. They are CMC. My NEC or Pioneer shouldn't have trouble with them though.

We are talking about DL (dual-layer) media here.

  5. About 6 bucks a pop and we gotta wait till June 30th? And lessee, at 2.4x it should take, what, about 45 minutes or so to burn one to maximum capacity? Funny, I was tempted to buy a Sony DRU-700A, but decided against it (too early). Gee, they're already selling 'em on eBay!

Even if the Price does goes down later on, you will still be faced with the compatibility issue. A review was done on the Benq DL drive Using MCC DL media and well it doesnt look that good.
but who knows in time they might overcome the issue. but for now i wouldnt venture into DL drives, i would prefer waiting for pioneer's - DL.

  7. I'd be curious to know if any of the drives (Liteon?) will bitset the +DL to DVD-ROM? Haven't found any relevant info, but will check again.

  8. Yes the Lite-On and Philips/BenQ DL drives can bitset +R DL to -ROM. BTW, here is a comparison of the compatibility of the different book types.
