  1. I usually capture with Virtualdub, then encode with TMPEGEnc. I capture at 704 x 480 and resize with Vdub to get 352 x 240. Recently I have been experimenting with trying to not resize and get a higher resolution XVCD. The results have looked better and worse. When I resize I have no interlacing problems. But when I don't resize I do. I have tried so many different ways of deinterlacing including on vdubs filters and TMPERGEnc's filters. I either get blurry video or if I select only one field, then you can tell something is missing. It just doesn't look as good, but at the same time, the picture quality is better.

Can anyone tell me how I can deinterlace this the best possible way and still be able to use 704 x 480. It would sure increase the quality of my videos.

  2. The reason is resizing down to half resolution is one way of deinterlacing (avisynth's bob filter does this). Try Virtual Dub's smart deinterlace (by Donald Graft) or the deinterlace filters by tHE fISH or simon walters (I can't remember the exact sites, but I found them from the vdub homepage) or even the built in field bob. You could also try using avisynths weave function.

It's thorny and I still haven't got it perfect, but good luck
