  1. ...to create Digital video(VCD,SVCD,etc-stereo Audio)?
I have a lot of VHS cassettes that all have mono soundtracks and my vcr audio output is mono as well.
till now I always connected one audio output connector to both left and right audio composite connectors of my capture card but I wonder if there is any other way to produce stereo soundtracks with better qualities for (s)vcd's.
I would be so thankfull if anyone can help me to find a comprehensive guide on audio issues(such as mono, stereo)
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. You should capture in PCM 44100 mono only, as anything else would be pointless, if you've got that source though there's notmuch point converting to stereo, you might aswell save the bitrate for video, if your do convert to mono then use joint-stereo. The tooLame encoder (which can be used as a plugin for TMPGEnc) will output a stereo file if you ask it to, just choose stereo in the audio settings in TMPGEnc when you set up your encode.

  3. Thanks Shabubu,
    8bit(43KB/s) or 16bit(86KB/s)?why not cd quality(44100 16bit stereo-172KB/s)?
My capture board is AIW 128 and It has vfw/wdm drivers both.
vfw works much better in most situations.
what happens if I capture such mono vhs tapes through the vcr cable antenna output?
What can I do when capturing mpeg-1 vcd compatible in real time?(the sound is not bad but not as good as an original (s)vcd).
I said cable antenna because I think the captures from mono tv channels have better sound quality.
Is there any better way to connect one audio compsite connector to a two channel connector?
I don't know how mono audio is converted to stereo(the exact process)anyone can help(explain)?

  4. I forgot,
what is that saving bitrate for video?
what's the exact difference between stereo and joint-stereo?
    thank you in advance..

  5. If your source is mono, there's no point saving stereo. It just takes up more space and makes it harder for your comp to cap. Save as 16bit 44100. The atenna output won't be as good as s-video. The conversion to stereo can be done when making the Mpeg audio (TMPGEnc will take care of the details if you want stereo output). Joint stereo just saves one channel, then the difference between that and left and right. It gives a richer sound and as there's no difference between your channels all the bits go to your audio.
