  1. im looking for a cheap dvd player since my current dvd player doens't like to read DVD+RW or DVD-R. It seems it only can read DVD+R media. And I'd am looking for a DVD player that reads it all. I burnt a original copy of air force one and the media is Ritek Ridata G04 DVD-R and the DVD player I have now spits the disc out. If I put a DVD+R, it reads just fine. Simple solution would be to just get DVD+R discs, but seems there are more of an abundance of DVD-R's in packs than the DVD+Rs.

    My features are:

    Progressive Scan
    Single Tray
    Optical and/or coaxial audio

Wal-mart has some good cheap ones. One of them being a

    Panasonic DVD-S27UP-S

(What are you guys thoughts about this player? I'd like to keep the player cost under $100 if I can, the more the better but can play any format DVD media.)

Also is progressive scan a big deal? I know it's only good for the Hi-res HDTV's that support P.S. but I don't think it would be something I'd miss. Of course it has sharper image quality but if I can see the movie fine, I probably wouldn't miss it to much. Does Rex store have an online website to look at their products?

Bummer the Digix 526UP won't read two of my DVD-R discs I made. Guess I'll just use those for data.

So now my two options are keep my current player and only get DVD+R discs or get a new player that supports any format and continue using my DVD+R discs. IT reads original DUal format dvd's or single, reads DVD+R, Yudens, Verbatim DVD+R fine, just no +/- RW or DVD-R.

I'd appreciate any advice regarding the above player and etc.

    Thx guys.

  2. I like Panasonic I got my sister the S32 and I thought it was about as good as my $230 Panny.

Did you see if you could update the firmware to your old player? what is it?

  3. Not sure there is any firmware for the player .

I was also looking at the RCA DRC310N or the Panasonic I mentioned above.

Would it be best just to use DVD+R media or get a player that has hte ability to play any DVD format?

  4. Does sticking to one type of media (+) cause problems for you?

The s25 model lacks an S-Video out, not sure about the s27, check it out if that's a problem for you.

Currently there is a sale on the Toshiba 4900, which has all of the features, plus more of what you need $70-$90 depending on where you shop. Quality is A+. I have tested this unit with Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Verbatim, and Prodisc DVD-R. It also plays Ricoh and Optodisc DVD+R with DVD-ROM book type <don't know if that's mandated, didn't test with any other book type>

Any big name player should fit your needs. Panasonic, Toshiba, and Pioneer all seem to make high quality products. I've had bad experiences with Sony, and any cheap (sub $50) player.

You may also want to check for a firmware update to your DVD burner. Some multi format writers have issues with DVD-R media. Also Ritek DVD-R media has caused people alot of problems here lately. Since you mentioned Taiyo Yuden, and Verbatim DVD+R, why not try Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DVD-R?

  6. DVD player plays any quality DVD+R fine, but spits out the DVD-R. I may go to sears and see what they have in their store. RCA has been good to my parents. They have it now for 5 years witout problems with it.

  7. According tto the databank your dvd player should do -. If it's the one in your profile. you could try another program.

  8. I'm not sure what else to use. I really like using copytodvd because it did great on the DVD+R discs. It also didn't want to play the DVD+RW Yuden free disc that came with my burner.

Funny thing is, it will play the DVD-R disc and DVD-RW disc fine on both dvd drives in my computer, just not on the dvd player.
