  2. Well the good news is that, that's what the "HOW TO" guide in the left column on this website pretty much does.

AVI file gets converted to MPEG file (mpeg2 for DVD).
    Then you do the AUTHORING.
    Then you do the burning.

The How To guides are not extremely easy at first, but they do explain everything step by step. Just click in the GREEN category at the left for each step you are at. That's all I can tell you. It takes a good amount of time to learn it all, and there's no "just do this then that and you're done" to it. So good luck.

  3. Basically the above answer is right, but to give a more detailed answer, First is to find the guide for your encoder of choice. ( I use tmpgenc plus ) Convert the avi to a dvd compliant streams ( you want seperate streams for Audio and Video on tmpgenc just set to ES(video+Audio) this will create the 2 seperate streams. Then Use DVD-Lab to Authur the DVD with great menus. Just follow the guides for DVD-Lap and in a few Hours you will have a DVD you can be proud of.

If you use TMPGenc you can use the wizard and create a complete DVD mpeg but be sure to watch the bit rates as file may end up too big.
And DVD-lab can handle the burning if you like or Nero works great.
    Anyway hope that helps

  4. Got one more tip use this site to get the best settings for your dvd:
    1. http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html for the basic settings of tmpgenc
    2. http://dvd-hq.info/Calculator.html to calculate the right settings for your movies.
    Greatings,

  7. If the AVI is compressed, then yes, you might expect to have the resulting MPEG be bigger than the AVI. you can continue to decrease the size of the MPEG by lowering the bitrate.

Audio issue can be many. You might not have the proper codec, the encoded output might have been placed in elementary streams, in which case you will have 2 files, one with the video and one with the audio. Or yat even another option is that the AVI might not have audio to begin with. It's hard to say without a little more information about the AVI file in question.

  9. Iam here for the same questions.
But those 7 posts above doest really explain it.
I have 2 avi's. Both have different (audio/video) bitrate and aspect ratios. Id like to put those on 1dvdr (keeping original aspect ratios).
So how could it be accomplished, without re-encoding every video(audio) stream to match each other

I can only speak for TMPGenc DVD Author as it is the only authoring tool I use . All you do is put each video on a seperate track.
