  1. After encoding divx/avi dvd rips with tmpge I get the vcd 'freezing' for a miniscule fraction of a second every second or so.This is most noticeable when someone or something walks/moves across the screen left to right or vice versa. Is this normal with vcd or do I need to tweak some settings?Any advice much needed and heeded.Adi

  2. Is the MPG stuttering on your computer or is it stuttering once you put it on VCD and play it on a DVD player? If it's the DVD player, make sure you're using VCD format exactly or it might have problems.

Did you remember to load the proper MPEG configuration file (.mcf). I forgot to do that once and my vcd "stuttered".

In addition to lowering the bitrate a little (say, from 1150 to 1123), make your GOP (group of pictures) smaller than what is provided in the mcf template that comes with TMPGEnc. I used a sequence of 1-2-1-1 and stuttering disappeared. This stuttering thing is mainly an issue with Avex and Napa/Waitec/Tanky portable VCD players. I've never experienced stuttering on the computer or in a VCD-capable DVD player.

  7. Make sure you are using the right template, 25fpd (PAL) and 30fps (NTSC). The template must match the original source before conversion to mpg. Hope this helps.
