A little help on bit setting...

i am new here but i am not new to computers software or hardware. i am new to DVD burning, (although i have been commercially making DVD's for a year now). Some of my earlier DVD's would not play in some older players, but lately it has not been a problem. I am about to purchase a new burner (probly the 832 or the 812 if it is fully upgradable), and need to know some more about bit setting.

I fully understand the differnce in book types. i have worked in audio longer then video, and i know the difference between orange book and red book audio CD's. My question here is what exactly changes when you change book setting on DVD's. Does the Table of Contents change indicating that it is a standard DVD-rom or does the whole burn process change. I would think that a dvd player that is incompatable with reading disks from a DVD burner, would still have problems reading the disk despite the book type. I would assume that it wasnt the book types fault as much as the jitter in the burn or some other reasons fault.

Does bit setting automatically make DVD players recognize any burnt DVD that is burnt to DVD-Rom book type???

Why cant DVD-R use any bit setting techniques???

finally, does setting the book type to DVD-Rom require longer burn times then dvd+R?

The other link doesnt seem to work.With bitsettings the burn time is the same and dvd-r doesnt have the same write stradegy as dvd+r so it isnt able to write bits into the leadin of the dvd.

My Panasonic DVD player will not play DVD+RW's.

If I burn those same DVD+RW's using bitsetting to DVD-ROM, they play perfectly.

In fact, I can burn them as DVD+RW's, and then change the book type to DVD-ROM (using the edit feature), and they play perfectly.

That's because PANASONIC standalone dvd players are manufactured to play only DVD-R media.

using BITSETTING will enable the + MEDIA to play in a Panasonic standalone dvd player.
