I have made maybe a hundred backups using DVD Decrypter and Instant Copy. Haven't changed anything. I am using the the 50 pack of Verbatim DVD-R like I have always used. I use Instant Copy selecting Main Movie Only most of the time and when the movie is single layer, I use DVD Decrypter reading the ISO and the write the ISO to DVD with DVD Decrypter. Lately though, every DVD is having problems late in the movie (freezing and breaking up). What could have gone wrong? Do I need another DVD writer. I am currently using Toshiba SD-R5002 to write the DVD. I have been cleaning every DVD before running DVD Decrypter also. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The problem seems to be not so much your ripping as your writing to disc. To me, this sounds like a media problem - low q discs usually gets into trouble at the outer region of the disc (where the last part of the data/movie is written) making the reader get into trouble at the later parts of the movie. Try compressing more (down to like 4 GB) or try other/better media.

Thanks, I will try anything at this point. Last 7 backups had to finish watching on computer because home player would not read the last 10 minutes of the movie. The thing that gets me though is that this problem just started using the same media I have always used. Can you suggest which media I should switch to? I would like to try a few to see if that is the difference.

the same media I have always used.
Do you really mean "same media" - not "same brand"? "Big" brands (at least some) change their suppliers without letting it on to the consumer. Check the manufacturer ID to see who really made the discs. Could be a bad batch too...
What's "best" is trial&error (should work fine with both your writer and player, who necessarily do not agree!), but most here seems to prefer Ritek G04.

Ok, I bought a 25 pk of Memorex DVD-r's and recorded at min speed (1x) on them with Instant Copy but still having problems. Almost every DVD is terrible toward the end. I did a split on a 2 1/2 hour movie with DVD Fab (main movie only) and it came out great, but we are talking only 3.2 to 3.7 gig per DVD. I haven't had any luck lately with Verbatim, Princo, and now Memorex. Any other suggestions?
