ok ive searched .... and have read that u can put mpeg1's onto a dvd and they will play in a dvd player.... alsoe heard re encoding to mpeg2 would degrade the quality?
so is it better to leave as mpeg1?

to put mpeg 1 on DVD you just need to author it.
If you use something like TMPGenc DVD Author it will convert the sampling rate of the audio from 44.1 to 48k which is required for DVD.
There is no point reencoding as the quality will not improve.
At a bitrate of 1150 which is standard vcd bitrate you can get over 7 hours on a DVD-R -
