this is my thought. to me dvd looks good enough. but hd looks pretty good too, well really good. this is it, what is the sky? i mean, something can only look so good right? something can only sound so good right? how many fps is it gonna take? how many kbps? audio in general, take for example mp3's. 192 sounds about the best, can't really tell the difference at twice the bit rate. so whats the difference. i mean, i guess when they start tapping into my brain and making 3d enviroments it could make a difference. but for now in this 2d world we live in what's gonna be the pinnacle? these eyes and ears that god gave me can only do so much right?

Having one of those rare days I see. I've noticed the more philosophical you get, the harder your posts are to read

Perhaps a vinyl friend would relax you?

  3. RCA VideoDisk, my friend. It is the answer to your question.

  5. I often wonder why members try to squeeze every last bit of information out of their video encoding routine. It perplexes me, and while I'm at my best with a couple of vodka shots moving through my system, I still find it an odd thing. To me, a good quality VCD goes a long way towards digital nirvana, and a good SVCD puts me on par with a romantic evening of vinyl and vodka.

But the sound is something entirely different. While I would probably enjoy sippin' Finlandia and whackin' Dolly while watching nothing more than a 33cm TV, my ears demand only the most perfect sound recreation system there is. No reasonable would expect to find an MPEG-1 DVD with LPCM, but I am well beyond reason. So as I sit on my white-trash couch and watch the beauty of the digital revolution, while kittens stand guard in the windows ready to attack any who dare trespass, I sip the lifegiving properties of distilled grain and enjoy a symphony to the ears and watch another enchanting episode of My Favorite Pixelation Scheme.

    It is sheer madness.

  6. Leela: Fry, you're wasting your life sitting in front of that TV. You need to get out and see the world.

Fry: But this is HDTV. It's got better resolution than the real world

  7. As tv screens get bigger 42" inches, plus, just to keep the same visible quality you need more resolution. 192k mp3 no,no! At least 256k Vbr if not 320k.. i think many people have excellent hi-fi systems and notice audio quality more than you might think.. But too much couch potato and not enough real world makes everyone obese.

  8. And here I sit, with many thousands of dollars in computer equipment, yet still watching (rarely) a 25" monaural TV, and even more rarely, listening to some canned music on a second hand boom box that doesn't have a CD player, with one dead, beer soaked speaker, from a long forgotten party.
Still trying so squeeze a few more kbps out of an encode, jumping through hoops with multiple software versions of questionable origin, and wondering through my malt and hops induced haze why I can only get mpeg 1 out of my long since expired version of tmpgenc.
    Priorities my friends

  10. Has everyone here been drinking? I know I have had a few myself, but there's been an unusual number of references to drinking in this thread.

Tell the truth now. Should Baldrick alert Alcoholics Anonymous to this hotspot?

  11. I wouldn't worry yet Cobra, it's Friday....now if this plethora of alcoholic postings were happening on a Wednesday, then you'd have to get Baldrick to phone someone

My name is Tony, and I am an alcoholic.

True story, I went to an AA meeting once with a friend who was going through a substance abuse problem. I was drunk as a skunk at the time. Aren't I a good friend?

Hell yes !!! I'll buy the next round !!

Did I mention how much I'm looking forward to my Dual layer DVD burner? 15 minutes of HIGH quality video per disc at super high bitrate encoding. Triple HighDef to the power of 10, baby !!

Next I'm gonna wire my 36" Progressive Scan TV right into my retinas -- or maybe the occular center of my brain -- making me the 1st human TIVO. I'll be using high performance gold connector "Monster" cables, of course!!

I double dog dare anyone to top that !! HDTV -- it's for amateurs !!

OK -- time to lay off the drinking.

Yeah. I'm not usually one to say, 'AAUUGGHH!!!' over porn. But that kinda took the jam out of my doughnut.
