I have been loaned two camcorder movies (each on a seperate dvd) which i have ripped to my hd. I'm trying to author a new dvd with both movies on it with a menu but i dont want the hassle of encoding both movies to svcd and then using something like svcd2dvd to put them on one disc. I've tried tmpgenc dvd author but it doesnt like the video format of 480x576. Does anybody know how i can put both sets of vob files onto one disc with a menu?

480X576 is SVCD resolution already. You should just be able to use svcd2dvd straight away.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I've ripped the vob files and ifo files to my hd (straight off of the original discs). They are not mpegs which i can load into svcd2dvd and i dont want to have to wait around and re-encode.

You are going to have to re-encode at some stage no matter what you do. Its just a matter of when you wish to do it.

Do the movies play in a standalone DVD Player ? I am interested to know how your friends created DVDs with a non-standard resolution.

[EDIT]There is an easy way to get them onto 1 disc - DVDShrink. No menu though. If you wish to create your own menu you are going to have to demux/mux and use something like TMPGEnc to recreate an MPEG2 file. Then use something like TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the menu and author.
    If in doubt, Google it.
