I just got the approval today to telecommute on Mondays with the option to add days as I see fit.

I realized this morning that I battle traffic across town every day just to sit in front of my PC, multitasking between Mentor Graphics, Word, Orcad/Pspice, Excel, and of course DVDRHELP.COM I got the idea from my officemate Susanne who telecommutes Mondays.

So I printed the authorization, filled it in and asked my boss if I can try it out for one day a week and possibly modify the days later depending on how it works out. He said "sure, sounds good" and signed off on it. He said to let him know if I plan to add days later, just so he knows where I am. He thought my current work assignments lent themselves nicely to telecommuting.

Now I don't have to leave Dolly and my other vinyl and natural members of the animal kingdom when I go to work every day. 8)

We use two ways to use remote access: a VPN and also a Citrix ICA client method of using a SecureID card across the internet to access the internal network and actually use my work desktop from home using remote access. I just had to enable it on XP. I'll have all the network apps, drives and resources like our technical drawing database. I should have done this a long time ago

I used to only do Friday's, but now I do up to 3 days a week. I choose the days....usually days that I don't have meetings. My work got me a laptop and 2 docking stations, 1 for work and 1 for home. I to can access my copr network via VPN.

It's great. We have folks here that have been doing it since 1999 when we were first allowed to do this. I used to have much more travel and meetings than I do now so I had never given it a second thought.

Now that my customer interface has been reduced and most of my work is analysis, development and design, this ought to work perfectly.

I have a work-provided Dell C400 laptop that I'll use for this, and with cable and wireless LAN at home there shouldn't be a speed issue. I can sit on the crapper while I write memos. How cool is that?

I'll have to lay off the goat while I'm "on the clock". There are limits to what even I would feel comfortable with. But at lunchtime, look out Dolly!

The drive to work is nice enough, since I leave the house at 5:45am and I-40 is all but deserted. The 16 mile one-way commute takes about 20 minutes. The afternoon is another matter. It seems that just east of the Big-I there are frequently accidents, and sometimes it's backed up all the way to Wyoming or Louisiana. It seems to happen on Thursdays more than any other day, for some odd reason

Also, with the weather warm now I can sit in the back yard while I work, or there's the deck off the MBR. So many possibilities ...too bad we didn't still have the pool or the choice of locations would be a no-brainer. I've got this floating chair with cutouts on the arms for beer bottles ......great for floating and snoozing .....oops, I forgot this IS work I'm talking about

I went the other way. I took Paseo to I-25 and then took Gibson across. But that was never at the same time each day, so southbound at Comanche was always entertaining because you never knew what to expect. And then you'd get to about Lead/Coal and hit that hairpin turn and hang on for dear life.

This was, of course, before they rebuilt the Big I. I imagine it's a lot less entertaining now. I've been through it several times since they completed it. I do miss the 'exit from the LEFT lane' engineering nightmare that made Albuquerque such a special 'ICU' destination.

So what do you do when Dolly's not available? Are you the guy that keeps cleaning out AutoZone's supply of 'Nu Car' fragrance? :P

The Big-I project went smoothly (much better than the I-40 bridge over the Rio Grande ..remember that?) and now all the exits are from the right lane, where they should be. It's nice. Now if we can get the drivers to remove their heads from their arses we won't have any more pileups at rush-hour. Some days it takes me 5 or 10 minutes to pry the driver's seat out of my ass

Only Dolly knows the truth for that one
And, yes, I'm at "work" now. My boss has been ecstatic at the amount of work I've gotten done since he bought Dolly for me. The employee morale thingy. I doubt he's gonna complain about keeping DVDRHELP in a minimized window all day with the occasional post

  16. I don't know about you guys but I can't stand telecommuters. They must know when I'm eating because they always call right after I sit down. I should have gotten on that "no call" list that was started last year. I don't know dude, enjoy it but do not call me on the damn phone...

  21. Actually, I shouldn't talk. I telecommute as well...

I am just as capable of spreading hate and discontent amongst my staff from home as I am from the office. And when they interrupt my 2 PM nap, you'd better ******* believe they're going to get hate and discontent.

You mean the famous "Indolikaa ass-whoop treatment" we see here from time to time? Poor staff

I hate it when someone wakes me up at work during my after-lunch/pre-quitting time nap

He looks like an escapee from a laughing academy. First the hair - " I want it long ...no, short .....no, long...." He looks like he has someone standing behind him And what is that nasty stuff spotting his pants legs? Corpse juice?

And why is he so damn mad at the corpse? Wasn't it decomposing correctly? WTF

    I think it'd make a fine avatar
