LiteOn 5001 has 2 heat problems.

Got my LVW-5001 today. It had a Nov. 2003 label on it.

I had it on doing nothing for half hour and the LSI chip was very hot. Itt has NO HEATSINK (Cyberhome 1500's Zoran has one).

The DVD drive is enclosed in black plastic and not metal. It was more than warm after sitting there for half an hour doing nothing.

I feel that the LSI chip needs a large HSink or a fan.

The drive has pleanty of space around it but this LiteOn case has no effective holes for the air to come in or for the heat to escape through.

BTW the macrovision & region hex code has been found for Fimware 1163 . Use a hex editor's find-function to locate:
55 53 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00

Replace it with: 55 53 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01

NEXT, go to line 0xA7 and change AE to AF

Cyberhome has Cirrus Logic, not Zoran.

Ooops on the chip mixup.

MAY not work if you already have the LiteOn's second part of 1163 installed.

After you install Part 1, you have a new SN.

Go back to liteon and enter the new SN for Part 2
DO NOT INSTALL Part 2 until you changed the 2 values.

Smartblue has done the hex "enhancement" to the 1163 firmware and is available but his site is clogged with downloaders right now.
I don't know if posting Smartblue's url is allowed on this forum.

Significant number of people have confirmed that the hex 'enhancement' works.
