Can anyone point me to a web site where I can get info on hard drive partitions for simple minded people? I just can't seem to grasp this stuff.
I have a HD that is used for backup only (E: ) that my wife installed YEARS ago and it appears to have problems. As I suspected....after dowloading 7Tools Partition Manager(demo) it is an 80gig HD but has a partition so Windows reads it as a FAT32 - 24gigs used and 7.45gigs free.
My goal initially was to re-format(?) it to NTFS so I can use it for my DVD-ing stuff but now that I see it is actually much bigger...I want to utilize all of the space.
But here's the kicker....7Tools Partition Manager shows that HD formatted as "other"....not FAT32 and now that HD "unmounts" every time I do a restart.
All of the info on this HD(just MP3's and other silly stuff) has been backed up to my new USB2.0 HD I recently installed so I'm not all that concerned about the data....my concern is it "unmounting" all of the time.
I considered letting 7Tools Partition Manager re-format the drive to NTFS....making sure the drive is "mounted"...then un-installing 7Tools Partition Manager but I'm not sure exactly what will happen.
The web site for 7Tools Partition Manager isn't much help to me...it's a bit too advanced.
Thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction.

Depending on your OS you should be able to do this via "Computer Management" (Start / Admistrative Tools)
Go into Disk Management
From there you can remove partitions, create new partitions and then reformat the drives.
