  1. Okay, guys and gals.

Maybe someone here can explain thsi to me.

I have posted a few times about backing up my DVDs so that the originals can be archived and I can watch the copies, so that if little fingers gum up my disks I can always make a new one.

I have been running into problems with Macrovision and the like, and have been told that a TBC will allow me to correct this situation.

However, I have found lately that copying the disk to tape using a video stabilizer in the line, and then copying the tape back to DVD usually works.

Now here's the thing. Often, when I try to record on my Panny E50, I get the dreaded 'blue copyright box'. However, a little persistance and eventually it starts to record. What's weirder, is I was trying this the other day and it wouldn't work at all. Figured I'd met my match. Tried the same tape yesterday, and it worked fine!

What is going on here? Any ideas?

I've noticed that on my E50 too. I usually don't mess with it, and just bring it upstairs on the PC setup which has a TBC. I think it's a sensitivity of the Panny to the macrovision. Maybe Panasonic was required to include macrovision support in their recorders, but grudgingly put it and turned the sensitivity down. That's the only thing I can figure, since if a tape has it, it should never allow a copy, yet sometimes it does.

Either that or it's set soooo sensitive that it's triggering it on tapes that don't even have macrovision

  4. One time I turner of the E80 and set it to LP mode and it record and before that I could not I just got the macrovision remove today http://www.facetvideo.com/ and it does do a very good job better then my Sima box. The only thing is with any macrovision remove box you lose the closed caption subtitle's.

  5. Technically, I do need a TBC. However, I'm beating the sheilding without it.

It's really weird, because I've found that sometimes scanning the tape forward (say through an intro theme) will allow it to start recording, and when I come out of scan it will stay working. Other times, it will stop working when I come out of scan.

It really seems to be a function of exactly when you hit the rec button.

I don't understand it, but it saves me from spending $400 on a TBC, so I'm happy.
