    1. Hardware: I bought a NEC 2500.

    2. Rip: I ripped a DVD movie onto my hard drive with either DVD Encryptor or DVD Shrink. I ripped two other DVD movies and can't remember which software I used on which. BTW, is there a way to tell?
With all three, I think I compressed them 15%, but I'm not sure. I don't remember.

    3. Burn: I used Roxio which came with the NEC. I used the DVD Builder part of the program. I just dragged the whole movie folder into the designated place. It said it was about 3.83 GB. I hadn't deleted any parts of the rip. I clicked burn. I used a Memorex +RW. I figured to use an RW so in case it didn't work, I wouldn't waste a disk. It burned the disk in about 22 minutes.

4: Play: I put the disk in my Panasonic S35 player. It said No Play.

Could someone tell me what to do to get a good DVD burn that will play? If I need to provide more information, please advise what that is, and how to determine it if it is not obvious.

    Thanks.

    2 things you can do.

    1. Use DVD-R media, or DVD-RW media.

    2. Get Herrie's hacked firmware for the NEC 2500. This will allow book type setting changes for DVD+R and DVD+RW media. You'll have to change the book type to DVD ROM for DVD+R and DVD+RW media in order for it load in the Panasonic s35.

I have both an NEC 2500 and Panasonic s35, this is how I test DVD+RW's with it. It wouldn't load for me either without the book type beeing switched.

The Panasonic has no issues with DVD-R nor DVD-RW media.

Herrie's firmware is at www.cdfreaks.com look in the forum, under the NEC Hardware topic.

Get the def. of bit setting, book type in the glossary to your top left.

    Hi D:

Since I just bought a pack of 25 +RWs, I would like to be able to use them. I checked some reviews and discussion of the Panasonic S35, including on this site I think, and a bunch of people said they did +RWs on it.

I'll go check out that link. Thanks. Tom
