I have high quality AVI files for episodes of a series on my computer. Each file is rougly 180 mb.
I put 3 per VCD, after burning the quality decreases a lot. why is this? in Nero Burning Rom V6, it says taht the dimensions are 352x240 even though they should be 640x480
i don't see a size or quality option in the program either
what should i do? thanks in advance

Hi!
It depends on how you want to watch your videoclips. If you only planned to watch them on your computer, then just burn them as a Data CD. No quality will be lost.
If you want to be able to see them through your stand alone DVD player, then burn them as VCD, SVCD or DVD. DVD will give you the best quality, SVCD a little lower and VCD the lowest quality.
Look in the "What is" section to see the differences between DVD/SVCD/VCD.

As long as you encode them at a decent bitrate the loss of quality shouldn't be too bad.

Hi,
I am guessing the person's problem who initiated this thread and asking a quetion, not to him but to the rest.
I have 6 AVI's of 30 minutes length each and they constitute a film which is obvioulsy 3 hours long. Now I would like to burn 3 SVCD of 60 minutes duration each to be able to watch them on my stand alone DVD player. So, is there a way I could join the AVI's, encode them to Mpeg2 SVCD format (of 3 hour duration) and then cut it back into 3 SVCD's of 1 hour each so I can burn a CD?
Please note that the encoding process is not of concern and I can well do that. The stress is only on joiing the AVI's and cutting MPG.
Thanks -
You're better off not cutting at the mpg stage - that road only leads to loss of sync and a host of other not so good experiences.
You can join AVIs (provided they all share the same properties when it comes to codec, bit rate, resolution and stuff) with VirtualDub (or AviSynth, if you're not afraid of that beast) then frame serve to your encoder. (Load the first, then append the second, third... with "Append AVI Segment")
