  1. Error Message: Invalid access to memory location

I hope this helps anyone that has had the same problem as I did. My system specs are located at the bottom of the page.

I had a problem backing up Transformers Season 2, Part I, disk 2 this past weekend. Using DVD Shrink 3.1.7, I was unable to get past the initial analysis phase (failure at approximately 45%). I tried both Sony DRU530 dual format burners with no success. I was successful in backing up five other DVDs with no problems.

I searched Google for information on the error message, and was advised to use DVD Decryptor, and to force the encryption of any *.VOB files missing their keys. I tried this method with the three latest versions of DVD Decryptor. DVD Decryptor never failed to rip the movie using any of the available modes (File and IFO). Using ISO mode only served to create a very large 7.3 GB ISO file.

After several hours of failing to get DVD Shrink to work, I decided to go with a hunch. I used the following tools:

    · 1. DVD Decryptor 3.2.2.0 -
o Ripped in IFO mode, and used it to rip only the PGC files. Ripped the main movie *.VOB files to the Hard Disk
    · 2. Womble Mpeg-VCR
o Used to convert the *.VOB files to MPEG-2 DVD Compliant files. (720x480 NTSC, sound AC-3)
    · 3. Ulead DVD Movie Factory
    o Used the seven Mpeg-2 files to create a 6.74 GB DVD-Video
§ Ulead created a Video_TS folder with the new decrypted *.VOB files
    · 4. DVD Shrink 3.1.7 to shrink the video. DVD Shrink never returned the error message.

    System Specs:

    · CPU: AMD Athlon XP+ 2800
    · Main Memory: 1.5 GB DDR 400
    · Motherboard: A7N8x-E Deluxe
    · 525 GB Western Digital HD
250 GB 7500RPM used exclusively for video
    · ATI 9000 A-I-W
    · Sony DRU530A (2 on board with all of the latest firmware)

You used a lot of extra steps (which probably at least doubled your time).

1- Rip with DVD Decrypter in file mode (not IFO mode.

2- Use DVDShrink to open the folder with those files and Shrink.

    Or you could

    1- Rip in ISO mode

2- Use Daemon Tools to mount the ISO image and

3- Use DVDShrink to open the image.

    > Using ISO mode only served to create a very large 7.3 GB ISO file.

That's because there was 7.3GB of data on the disk. If you ripped in file mode you'd have ended up with a bunch of files that totaled 7.3GB.

  3. I originally ripped in file mode, but I was still running into the same problem with Shrink. When ripping it in file mode Shrink would fail during the initial analysis phase. Forcing the decryption key failed, as did using any of the available CSS cracking methods available in DVD Decryptor. The only method that worked for me was the one listed below. I have successfully backed up over 150 DVDs with no problem using Shrink.

Now, I never have used Daemon Tools to mount the ISO images, and I will try that in the future.

The steps that I used do appear to be a lot of extra steps, but the time difference was not much different. It took approximately 1.5 hours what usually takes me less than an hour to do. The longest part of the process was in waiting for Ulead to create the DVD Video. Mpeg-VCR was quick, since there was no editing involved.

    Thank you for the reply.

I only mentioned that because I felt that I had erred, since I could not burn an image that large onto any dvd media that I owned. had been aware of Deamon tools, then it would have been no problem.
