  1. have yet to have been able to burn a DVD using my superdrive (Pioneer 104) but can burn cd's. I am Apple DVD media.

Recently, I tried burning a backup copy of a DVD that i had dlownloaded (using DVD Backup)--everything seemed to be fine during burning. However, at the end of the verification process I get an error that says "verification failed sector 16 unreadable."
I remove the DVD from the try and re-insrt into the drive. It then shows 0 items and 4.28 GB available. of course when i try to burn the files again I am told that "I have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read."

I can burn CD's without a problem but have yet to burn a DVD.

BTW, i have also tried copying data files to DVD but have had no luck.

any thoughts would be gratefully received before i buy any more discs!

get youself some dvd-rw's and begin experimenting with burning

how long have you had this drive? Pioneer 104 isnt the most new drive... is this the first time you have ever burned a dvd with it?

    Is it a used drive?

If you consistently get burn errors on dvds then id begin to question if the drive is working properly....

sorry cant offer any more help other than to say try it again with another media brand

Check to see if Apple issued a firmware update for that drive. Also, search the drive user database at xlr8yourmac.com to learn if others have experienced this problem and have a suggested fix for it.
