Let me just say, I am not a vegetarian or cow's rights activist, I am not lactose intolerant, and I do not believe in any of its supposed health benefits. But I love soy milk.
Since I was little, I never cared for the taste of cow's milk. A few years ago I tried soy milk and I really liked it. It tastes delicious. I first drank VITASOY brand but recently switched KEY FOOD generic brand cause it is cheaper ($1.29 a liter). I only drink "original flavor", none of that vanilla or chocolate stuff. I drink about a liter of it a day. Only problem is it tends to give me horrendous gas if drink too much too quickly in one sitting.
Any other Soy Milk fans? Don't be embaressed, I won't call you a dirty tree hugging hippie.

you should try the SILK soymilk
my favorite by far. -
You know I had something out of a vending machine the other day that was a Fudge Shake thing with soy milk. Made me feel sick actually.

its worth every penny....... i still drink milk however, so its sort of a once and a while purchase for me
-
my daughter (4 year old) won't drink any milk but the Silk Vanilla Soymilk......
Yes, it's pricier than the regular milk, but she's lactose intolerant as well.... I like the taste, but I still drink 1% milk.. -
Another thing I like about soy milk is that it is like drinking pure energy. Right now, I am going to drink a tall glass of it, and go biking for a couple hours. I am confident it will provide me with the nutrition and hydration I will need.

you should be able to tell for yourself if a person who is lactose intolerant eats anything dairly
lets just say your nose will tell you first
lactose is broken down by an enzyme called lactase. Non funtioning enzyme means lactose is not broken down into its simple sugars and goes on to be utalized by the normal bacteria of your intestines
they however turn it into a gas....... thus the reason you can usually tell if someone is lactose intolerant really quick
nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhea, which begin anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours after eating or drinking foods containing lactose
i also think there is a test that can be preformed to determine if the enzyme is diffecient or not -
Soy milk ain't bad. Quite good in fact, but too pricey for me.

I asked my wife and no, the doc didn't do any specific tests, he just observed her actions and asked us a few questions and told us to try soy milk....
I've had some of it myself when I ran out of my 1% and it tastes good - but like Teegee said - it's expensive....
You having a problem with the new child, Will? -

And it's really great how your daughter is helped by soy milk. In some peoples lives, a food can really make a difference.I wish her the best!

I have a tablet/prescripion which I take daily and if taken early enough (ie. first thing) I don't suffer with it at all but despite having had two edoscopy's the doctors are none the wiser as to what causes it.
When I was young (ie. before my teens, 9, 10yrs old maybe, up to the age of around 15yrs) I had a strange taste for things you shouldn't really eat in any great volume....
* HP sauce
* vinegar
* mint sauce etc.
The latter I remember eating like soup, (no shit!) with five slices of bread.
To a certain degree I virtually cut it out completely (I don't do the mint sauce soup disk anymore!) but asked my doctor whether my 'abuse' was a factor is my problem...
....he said no, not at all.
Don't get me wrong, it's controllable and that's cool but it's been going on too long and I'd like to identify the cause.
As I said I know nothing about this lactose issue and clearly I'm not intolerant. I say that because boy do I love my dairy products - I love cheese!
Maybe it's simply my diet, although I wouldn't say I eat unhealthly.
Yes, okay, maybe too many meals with (oven; lower fat) chips, not enough vegatables and fruit but I'm not a fast food addict, I have one a week (as a treat, moneys tight right now!).
Strange thing is, I went on a bit of a health push beginning of November to beginning of March and lost a stone (down to 11' 6lbs now) and changed my diet completely, fruit throughout the day, salads, low fat stuff, cereal etc. It wasn't a diet, I just east far more sensibly and went to the gym three times a week but even during this period I still needed the prescription; every day.

I'm glad to hear that your new one is ok and I can sympathize with you on the diet issues... I too am in my early 30's and have experienced problems with foods that I ate all the time in my earlier days. My doctor hasn't really pursued what the issue is - he just wants me on a low carb/low fat diet.... says that should isolate out any of the junk foods and give him a better understanding of what "eats" at me (no pun intended).
I have developed a lactose intolerance in the last 5 years - I can no longer drink or use Whole Milk of any kind - it has to be 1% or lower or my body just, well... you get the idea. -

I sympathize with ya Will. Not knowing why is frustrating.
