Man, even though they probably suck, at that price, you have to take a chance. They're probably at least good enough for data storage.

Me: Hello, yes is this TEON corporation, it has been 4 months and I still have not received my $10 mail in rebate.
Phone operator: blah blah blah
Me: What do you mean you never got it?
Phone Operator: blah blah blah
Me: What do you mean there is no such company as TEON?
Phone Operator: blah blah blah
So you are saying I spent $15+$3 tax on godawful coaster media and
there is nothing I can do about?
Phone Operator: yes
Me: Well I am going down there to Taiwan and kick your asses.
Phone Operator: Good luck. -
HAHAHA!
That takes care of them rebates and makes them $14.95... Risk factor increases...
-
Yeah, that's a shame, no one knows what they are and without the rebate they jump all the way up to 60 cents.
My last 100 cost 40 cents, back ordered, at after rebate price across the counter.
Still, if they got 'em when I get there, I'll try a couple stacks.
The guy, either here or on the other thread who said if they're no good for video, at least good for data seems to have it wrong. Video can correct for bad copy and burn. A data file can be FUBAR with just a bad bit or two.

got a 20 pack, not knowing the brand thought to only try one pack, sent rebat in a week ago, 5 bucks after i get it back total price, got the -'s as 3 of my 5 players dont like ='s too much, burned flawlessly at 4x,
wish i had picked up the limit of 2, oh well
-
Hrm, for what it's worth, I've gotten 2 emails (1 per rebate) from Staples saying my rebates are valid. We'll see when I get the actual checks in hand.
-
I wouldnt buy cheap dvds, always landfill quality,i`ve burned data to crappy dvds and they copy back to windows ok but playing on a dvd player is a different story, skipping and pauses.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
I took a chance on two packs. They burn at 4X instead of 6X in my
NEC-2500A burner but they play fine. Plus I registered for my rebate
online at Staples website and got my $10 check in less than 2 weeks -
i too got 2 packs of the teon -'s. they burn fine at x4 in my pioneer dvr-107d. much to my suprise they even played back in my toshiba stand alone dvd player se-r0030, which is like 4.5 yrs. old. seeing how i just got my burner these are the only media that i have used.

Well, I just got my rebates yesterday, so at least that came through and they were only $5 a pack.
-
these are manufactured by khypermedia or atleast it says on the rebate receipt. i bought these from staples the day the deal started and i bought two spindles. im currently on my second spindle and i havent burned a coaster yet at 4x. great dvd-rs!

Would you guys that are buying the same cheap stuff that I am quit telling the rest of the forum that the cheap stuff you are buying is burning flawlessly?
The mantra here is TY and maxell. You ain't supposed to buy this garbage, and you are REALLY, REALLY not supposed to get good burns.
I buy by price, and do not get garbage burns, but if I do, I don't cry over a 2 buck disk, I just bitch about a 40 cent disk..
HELL, I paid more for CD-Rs when I started this stuff.
TY? Bullshit. Someone buys a set of dies, they stamp a couple million, read TY, some swear by THAT BATCH, must have some "quality control", they "definitely" grind up all the less than pristine..
So, what's the bid on my bridge, for the gullible?
Cheers,
George -
Ok, how's this. I burned one of the Teon's in my Toshiba XS32, which means it burned at 4X, and the disc freezes up and won't read properly in any of my players.
How's that? :P
In all seriousness, cheap media is cheap media. Let's compare notes in 5 years and see if the Teon DVD-Rs are working better than my Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs. Being as I'm having problems playing some of the Teon discs TODAY and not the TY, I'd say the odds are in 5 years that the Teons will be in even worse shape.
You get what you pay for with DVD media. I personally find the whole $.50 premium for good discs to be a small price to pay for discs I believe may still be functional in 5 years. If I'm burning a fast copy of something for someone, that only needs to work once, $.20 media is fine. If I'm burning a copy of a home movie of a special family event, I can afford $1 for a disc.
