I use an ALL IN WONDER 128 to capture directly to VCD. I don't find the quality too bad. I usually record straight from the TV Tuner but I have a problem in that the one of the channels (ITV in the UK) suffers from a poor picture. It appears over exposed with all light areas of the picture appearing white. I can get something almost watchable by adjusting the colour, brightness and contrast, but this then affects all the other channels. The Bizarre thing is that even videos recorded in another room from ITV have this problem when I connect them to my computer. Does anyone have a clue what is happening here? Our reception is not perfect (we suffer from ghosting) but it's good enough to pick up Digital TV downstairs.

The other problem is when capturing from VHS cassette. The picture is generally Ok but not as sharp as on the TV. However the audio seems only to come from the left speaker. I am using a nicam VCR and there is a very faint audio in the right speaker. It seems that somewhere the balance has gone wrong but it only happens when in the composite or S-Video modes. Also the sound in the left speaker is easily distorted even at low volume. Again any info would be appreciated.

Finally can someone tell me what the DVD 4.1 update does for capture? I installed it and it made all the sound on the TV distorted and hissy. I have now uninstalled it but the TV makes a loud glitch noise when I change channel.
