Three in a server case. Intake in front to blow air over the HD's for cooling and 2 rear exhaust. Runs cool enough with a AMD 2500 Barton and 4 HD's, CD, DVD burners and a Zip drive.

Wow, you guys use a lot of fans. Both my Pentium-4 2.4's have:

    1 case fan in front
    2 in power supply
    1 on video card

Temps run about 30c at rest

Do these actually help you? I have been considering them, but am reluctant to spend the cash.

    As for my system...

    2 front
    2 back
    1 CPU
    1 Video card
    ---------------
6 total (8 if you count the two in the PSU)

The only thing I didn't like about some of my older fans is they made this whistling noise that could be heard over everything. After replacing all those it's more of noise that's hard to explain. I guess it just sounds like the air from a lot of fans. It reminds me of white noise. I don't mind it usually since most other computers are a lot more noticeable than mine.

    The new computer will have:
    1 120mm intake fan
    1 120mm exhaust fan
    2 80mm heatsink fans
    1 NB cooler fan
    1 video card fan
    2 PSU fans
1 fan on the Vantec swap tray
1 fan on the Pioneer burner

=10 fans in all, but with the bigger fans moving more air with less noise I should have an overall quieter system. Every fan in the new computer is ball-bearing (except maybe the DVD drive), and I may be using Intel windtunnels for the CPUs if they actually turn out to be quieter than an 80mm setup like I have now. That and a lot of hardware is mounted on rubber or silicone spacers.

  12. Coolmaster 80mm 2200RPM fans
    2 front
    2 back
    2 PSU
1 on CPU heatsink (yes this is a 2200RPM fan, its on a Thermaltake SLK800 copper 'sink. 32C idle. no worries)
    =
    7 case fans
    +
    1 on gfx card

For how many fans it is really not noisy at all.
They are low RPM quiet fans.

I should think about doing that. It really does help.

I've always wanted a case that I could use 120mm fans in front and back but they never had the other features I wanted. I like this kingwin case a lot anyway so.

  13. 1 case exhaust
    1 cpu
    1 video

I don't know how hot it runs, Had it for a year and it stays on 24/7 and still works fine...even after upgrading the cpu from 1.6 to 2.6 I got seagate quite drives in it and most of the time I can't even tell the thing is on. No lights or anything Just have to move the mouse to see if the monitor turns on and I see a logon screen

2 Intake, 1 on the top of my case and 1 on the rear. My power supply also has a intake fan on the inside of the case and exhause fan that vents the hot air out the back.

6 total, if you count the ps fans.

  17. Eight in total:

    - Two intake, front panel at the bottom
    - One intake, side panel, middle
    - Blower (Coolermaster) on my Aero 7+ CPU cooler
    - Graphics card fan
    - One output fan on rear panel intercepting hot air from graphics card before it hits the CPU cooler
    - Dual-fan PSU, extracting directly off CPU cooler

It is surprisingly quiet for all of these fans - all you can really hear is the rushing of air. It's nice and cool in that case, though!

Not mine. Mine cools by convection.

  25. I just took a look inside my trusty old Performa 6400 (180MHz flavour) and it has a little black heatsink. Cool!

I remember when we got that machine. We got it with 48MB of RAM, which was a phenomenal amount in those days. What a beauty it was! Now, it lives in my wardrobe under my shirts.

I feel a resurrection coming on!

i remember the mind blowing power of my 086, it had SIXTEEEEEN colours and TWO floppy drives! (and i'm talking ******* floppy floppies, not those shit hard 3.5" pieces of crap)

I even upgraded that machine, i bought a TWENTY ONE MEGABYTE hard drive! wow!

Then my 16Mhz 386, which i upgraded the RAM (to i think 12MB) by means of about six PCI cards, coated with ram chips.

those were the days eh? wonder how quicly that 086 would complete an @home WU?

    Total of 9

    2 front (in)
    1 back (out)
    1 top (out)
    2 harddrive (in)
    1 cpu
    1 Mobo
    1 Powersuply

Note you always want to more in than out to keep up the pressure inside the case, this helps eliminate excessive dust inside.

I shall be doing some fan installing tomorrow hopefully. micro ATX case doesn't have anywhere to mount them.....

i want two in the side (one blowing on the GFX card, one onto the ram) then the cpu fansink will be ducted up to the top of the case and there will be one in the top as well. all at 5volts, because i hate noisy 12V fans! whats the point of feeding £1k worth of HiFi with an optical signal over the newtwork from your audio server when the PC doing it is creating 200dB of noise!?

This was how they did it in my old Dell machine. It worked very, very well. I might give it a shot if it works well for you!
