  1. Hello,

Im very newbie when it comes to video editing....any help is greatly appreciated..

I have some videos I want write to a DVD. It seems that the quality of the original avi's are good at the original size they are meant to play and when they get converted to MPEG-2 and written to DVD they are a bit blurry and not so sharp.

Is this a problem that could be solved with avisynth?? Im a real noob so any detailed instructions would be nice. I have been browsing the forums but am a bit overwhemed with all the different options available..

or is it merely a problem of garbage in garbage out so to speak...

    thanks

You need to be more specific about what your process has been thus far, what softare your using, what the source is, and what your end goals are.

  3. If you really are a real noob, avisynth is way outa your league. Anyway, what software do you use to do your encodes from avi to MPEG-2 maybe then we can give our insight.

  4. Ok..sorry for the vagueness here..

Most of my videos are AVI Divx codec. Some may be made with other codecs...

I use TMPGEnc to convert the avi's to MPEG-2 which I believe the outputs are MV2 for the video and MP2 for the audio...im at work now and belive thats correct off the top of my head.

Then I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the DVD.

The problem more specifically is this. When viewing the AVI on my computer it only takes up lets say 1/4 of my 19" monitor. When I go to full screen mode it gets blockish looking an not a sharp picture. When I write the AVI to DVD with the above process..it looks the same or similar to the full screen mode on my computer

    Thats it

What other details am I missing?

    thanks much

  5. Sound slike perhaps you are encoding at a low resolution? Make sure your DVD template has a resolution of 720X480 (assuming your source resolution isn't too bad) Also, your desktop resolution may be too high for viewing video (1600X1200 for example woud make 720X480 look relatively pathetic). Again. you may be having a garbage in, garbage out complex... you could play around with TMPGEnc's sharpen filters... use noise reduction or set soften block noise to help prevent mascroblocking... but hat's about all I can suggest.
